EE has been deemed the best operator in Hull and surrounding areas, averaging a d0wnlo4d speed of 9.6MBps according to new research from RootMetrics.
Three was in second place, with an average d0wnlo4d peed of 3.5MBps but beat the UK's biggest operator in terms of network reliability. O2 was the third quickest, at 1.8MBps, but Vodafone lagged in fourth place with average speeds of 1MBps. This means it would take five and a half seconds for someone in that region to load a typical web page.
Each of the operators had a strong call performance, with EE, O2 and Three boasting 'outstanding' call failure rates of 2%. While Vodafone lagged behind again, at 4.9%, this rate was not comparitively poor compared to the rest of the UK.
RootMetrics CEO and president Bill Moore said: 'Our testers conducted more than 28,300 tests to deliver a highly accurate picture of mobile network performance in the area. Using our data, we’ve been able to show there is a clear split between the operators in Hull and the surrounding areas. EE is far ahead of its competitors thanks to the introduction of its 4G service, which offers incredibly fast mobile internet. This is going to become more important for people as they increasingly use their mobiles to search the internet, listen to music or watch videos.
'It’s also clear that those in rural areas are being underserved. Those living outside Hull get a consistently poorer service from their networks than those in the city, despite paying exactly the same. When their contracts end, they should carefully consider who will offer them the best network service and value for money.'
